Welcome to Edgworth Real Ale Festival Website

Edgworth. the tiny village five miles north of Bolton, is holding its second real ale festival on Friday 28th, Saturday 29th September and Sunday September 30th 2007 at the Barlow Institute, Bolton Road, Edgworth, Turton, Bolton. BL7 0AP.

It is the aim of the Edgworth Real Ale Festival to offer to the educated and uneducated beer drinker the opportunity to sample the delights of the quality, taste and numerous styles of true British Cask Beer

Cask beer must be distinguished from the keg and pasteurized and so called smooth beers so commonly found in pubs. Cask beer gives a greater  choice of styles-flavours and satisfaction to the palate than bland carbon dioxide and nitrogen injected keg beers.

All cask beers may not be to everyone's taste, some you may like others you may not, but they offer a discerning choice. The pleasure is often in the sampling and once hooked it is a pleasure you will savour.

Festival Update 2007

The 2007 and second Edgworth Real Ale Festival was another major
success. The final financial summary has yet to be confirmed but the Committee is confident that approximately £3000.00 will be shared between the Home Farm Trust and Michael Williams Trust

A big thank you to everyone who supported the festival and
complimented us the choice of beers available  - especially the 10 casks obtained from the Cumbrian micro-breweries. Unlike 2006 festival we did not run out of beer  with many still available for the Sunday opening.

Attendance was up significantly on 2006.

A very big also thank you to all our sponsors for supporting  the 2007 festival.

The  "Beer of the Festival"  prize was awarded to Hopstar Brewery from Darwen for its "Smokey Joe's Black Beer". This is the second time in succession that Barry from Hopstar has won this prize and the attached photo shows him receiving his prize for his achievement in 2006. Second place went to Bowland Brewery's "Hen Harrier" and third place to Kirkstile Brewery's "Kirkstile Gold".

Our two  prize draw tickets  were won by Mark Rothwell and Hilary
Atkinson.

  Specific thanks are due to:

"Fletch", without whom it would have been impossible to have hold such a festival.

GMPTE for their help on promoting the timetables of the shuttles bus at their bus stops on the route used.

Northern Rail for their kind donation of two day return tickets for =
four people on their rail network

Bolton Rugby Club for providing "security" services

Bolton Community Transport for providing the shuttle bus service.

George and Jeff at the Barlow Institute for their support during the festival.

And, last but by no means least, to the many, many volunteers that
offered their services, free of charge, to pull the pints.
