The following list is the 2007 range of beers which were available at the event. We will soon be updating this with the new 2008 selection. Keep checking.
 

BITTERS
Bitters developed towards the end of the 19th century as brewers began to produce beers that could be served in pubs after only a few days storage in cellars. Bitters grew out of pale ale but were usually deep bronze to copper in colour due to the use of slightly darker crystal malts. Bitter falls into the 3.4% to 3.9% band and grew out of Pale Ale but was generally deep bronze to copper in colour due to the use of slightly darker malts such as crystal that give the beer fullness of palate.

Overall Winner - Boot Beer Festival, Cumbria 2001'. 'Festival Beer - Bolton Beer Festival 2000'. A great Anglo/American alliance; pale bitter brewed with English malt and American hops leading to a full floral after taste.
  WOODFORDES WHERRY NORWICH 3.8%
A premium ale brewed to the highest specifications, it has a distinctive aroma with hints of fresh citrus and malt dominating. A prefect blend of hops and malts gives a long satisfying finish.
         
BEST BITTER
"Best Bitter falls into the 4% upwards category. With Best and Strong Bitters, malt and fruit character will tend to dominate but hop aroma and bitterness are still crucial to the style, often achieved by ‘late hopping’ in the brewery or adding hops to casks as they leave for pubs."

An amber coloured autumn special from Phoenix; sweet aroma, with hints of pears and citrus. A true bitter with a long bitter finish.
  MORDUE WORKIE TICKET WALLSEND 4.5%

A tasty, complex beer with malt and hops throughout and a long, satisfying bitter finish. Well worthy of the title 'Champion Beer of Britain - 1997'.

A further development of Bitter comes in the shape of Extra or Strong Bitter of 5% or more with strong malt and hop characteristics

  THREE B'S SHUTTLE ALE BLACKBURN 5.2%
A strong pale ale light in colour, with a balanced malt and hop flavour, and superb 'Goldings' aroma, long dry finish, and a delicate fruit notes.
  BANK TOP SMOKESTACK LIGHTNIN BOLTON 5.0%

Overall winner in its Class - Great North Western Beer Festival 1997'. A pale straw coloured bitter with hoppy aromas and a lingering malty finish; the strongest bitter in the Bank Top range.

  WATERMILL WRUFF NIGHT CUMBRIA 5.0%

A strong yet golden hoppy ale brewed at the Watermill at Ings, the ‘Best Pub of the Year – 2006; Good Pub Guide in one of Lakeland's newest pub breweries which opened in July 2006

MILDS
Mild is one of the most traditional beer styles which is enjoying a revival in today’s real ale market. Usually dark brown in colour, due to the use of well-roasted malts or barley it is less hopped than bitters and often has a chocolatety character with nutty and burnt flavours. It is a beer which has tastes and textures all it’s own and is a beer that is less hopped than bitter

A traditional dark mild with CAMRA awards to its name. Well balanced with a full roast flavour. The use of crystal malt and roast barley gives a deep underlying characteristic flavour, balanced with 'Fuggles' hops as the sole variety.

  Dark Island Orkney Stromness 4.6%
'Silver Medal Winner - Strong Mild and Old Ale category - CAMRA's national winter celebration of beer'. A traditional Orkney Beer; dark and mysterious with a uniquely distinctive taste; characterised by a ruby port wine colour and a distinctly chocolate, nutty malt taste.
  3BS Stokers Slake Cumbria 3.7%
A traditional dark mild roast with distinctive malt aromas and creamy chocolate notes.
  Hobsons Hobsons Mild Shropshire 3.2%
Just named as 'Champion Beer of Britain 2007 -The Great British Beer Festival'. A nutty mild and despite being only 3.2% it is packed full of flavour. A great victory for a traditional British beer bursting with flavour with plenty of hop character. It's great to see a classic copper coloured beer take the top award
GOLDEN
This new style of pale, well-hopped and quenching beer developed in the 1980s as independent brewers attempted to win younger drinkers from heavily-promoted lager brands. Strengths will range from 3.5% to 5.3%. The hallmark will be the biscuity and juicy malt character derived from pale malts, underscored by tart citrus fruit and peppery hops, often with the addition of hints of vanilla and cornflour. Golden ales are pale amber, gold, yellow or straw coloured and above all, such beers are quenching and served cool

  KIRKSTILE KIRKSTILE GOLD LOWESWATER 4.3%
Beer of the Festival - 2006 Pendle Beer Festival'. Very rare; available only at Kirkstile Inn, Loweswater and Punchbowl, Great Broughton. Made with lager malt and German hops this is a genuine golden beer that is truly refreshing. With flavors of mango, grapefruit and banana.
  HAWKSHEAD LAKELAND GOLD CUMBRIA 4.4%
A golden ale; hoppy and uncompromisingly bitter with complex fruit flavours from the blending of a modern English hop, 'First Gold', with the American, 'Cascade'.
  KELHAM ISLAND PALE RIDER SHEFFIELD 4.3%
'CAMRA Supreme Champion Beer of Britain 2004'. Pale Rider is a well balanced strong and fruity ale flavoured with North American Hops.
  HOPSTAR SECOND SUMMER THIRST DARWEN 5.2%
A late summer special from this local and popular micro; golden in colour with citrus tones and a light hop finish
  HOPBACK SUMMER LIGHTNING WIGAN 5.0%
A trendsetter in the brewing industry; the original Summer ale brewed all year round. An extremely pleasant bitter, straw coloured beer with a terrific fresh, hoppy aroma. This, coupled with an intense bitterness, leads to an excellent long, dry finish. Probably the beer to receive the most awards in Britain!
IPA / PALE ALE
India Pale Ale changed the face of brewing early in the 19th century. The new technologies of the Industrial Revolution enabled brewers to use pale malts to fashion beers that were genuinely golden or pale bronze in colour. Look for juicy malt, citrus fruit and a big spicy, peppery bitter hop character, with strengths of 4% upwards

BARLEY WINES
Barley wine dates from the 18th and 19th centuries when England and France were often at war and it was the duty of patriots to drink ale rather than claret.County Houses often had their own breweries and barley wine had to be strong, between 10 and 12%, as it was often stored for up to two years.

  ORKNEY SKULL SPLITTER STROMNESS 8.5%
Satiny smooth in the mouth, deceptively light, and dangerously drinkable; named after Thorfinn Hausakluif (SkullSplitter), the Seventh Viking Earl of Orkney. A beer of strength, finesse and impressive structure; a deep chair please!
PORTERS AND STOUTS
Porter was a London style that turned the brewing industry upside down early in the 18th century. It was a dark brown beer – 19th-century versions became jet black – that was originally a blend of brown ale, pale ale and ‘stale’ or well-matured ale. It acquired the name Porter as a result of its popularity among London’s street-market workers. At the time, a generic term for the strongest or stoutest beer in a brewery was stout. Look for profound dark and roasted malt character with raisin and sultana fruit, espresso or cappuccino coffee, liquorice and molasses, all underscored by hefty hop bitterness. Porters are complex in flavour, range from 4% to 6.5% and are typically black or dark brown; the darkness comes from the use of dark malts unlike stouts which use roasted malted barley. Stouts can be dry or sweet and range from 4% to 8% ABV

  NETHERGATE OLD GROWLER SUFFOLK 5.0%
'Winner - CAMRA Winter Festival - 1998, 2003'; also 'Supreme Champion - 2003'. 'Supreme Champion - Chicago International Beer Festival - 2004; Porter Category'. A complex, satisfying porter, smooth and distinctive. Roast malt and fruit feature in the palate. The finish is powerfully hoppy with a hint of liquorice. Sometimes available as Growler Extra, at 5.5 % abv.
  HOPSTAR SMOKEY JOES BLACK BEER DARWEN 4.0%
Beer of Edgworth Beer Festival 2006.  Award winning black beer with a bag full of character. Slightly smokey with tons of chocolate in the finish. Overall winner, Salisbury Winterfest 2006 + best of festival Porters & Stouts category, Cambridge 2005

A dark smooth porter style ale from one of the newest pub micros in Cumbria. Very rare
 
CIDERS
In the UK, cider is an alcoholic drink made from fermented apple juice. It is predominantly (but by no means exclusively) made in the southwest and west of England  Cider is often stronger than beer  and is frequently over 6% alcohol by volume. The common eating apples are unsuitable for cidermaking, being low in tannins ; specific apple cultivars  bred especially for cider making  are preferred

A strong dry premium blend cider full of flavour with a clean apple bite. Produced traditionally in a family Somerset cider farmhouse using a blend of locally grown apples

Medium Cider
  BIDDENDEN KENTISH DRY CIDER BIDDENDEN 8.4%
Made from a blend of dessert and culinary apples grown in the Garden of England. It is a still, dry cider best served chilled as a delicious alternative to wine

PERRY

Perry is a drink so difficult to find that most people don't even know of its existence. Perry is made exactly the same way as cider is from apples, perry is from perry pears.Like cider apples; perry pears are grown specifically for perry production.
  DOUBLE VISION IMPAIRED VISION KENT 7.5%
A sweet and balanced drink that is both soft and fruity. The alcohol is surprisingly well-hidden - this almost qualifies as a juice - don't try it on the children
